With a Foreword by Tony Benn
First published in April 1914, this book has been in print for 100 years, translated into at least six languages and sold well over a million copies. Passed from generation to generation, it's been read by tens of thousands of workers and taken to their hearts.
Robert Tressell was born in Dublin in 1870. By May 1902 he had arrived in Hastings, where he worked as a low paid house painter. The book is a huge swipe at the capitalist class. Tressell wrote it in response to a rising tide of Toryism. It is a hard-hitting defence of trade unions, working class solidarity and socialism.
